Why this site?
July 19, 2024
This is a pretty simple website to document my learning journey with programming. As a slightly older bachelor CS student, I have some basic understanding of concepts and some beginner experience with coding, but I have not had the opportunity to get my hands dirty with setting up a server, thinking about the database, styling and deploying it. Despite contributing to some interesting open source projects, I needed to try and develop some projects myself. I think this is the best way to build up the necessary hands-on experience and skills. This blog and portfolio site will serve to improve my knowledge of the technology I am primarily interested in, data analysis and web technology. It will document my failures, my battle with impostor syndrome, but hopefully also a modest learning curve. It can also be used to showcase some of the projects I have been working on.
This site is built using Django. Using this framework is probably overkill for such a simple site. However, instead of a static site, I preferred to build a site that would allow me to put into practice the things I learned about Django and Python. I am confident that this framework will provide a platform for further experimentation.
At the moment the site is inspired by the minimal design of the
Lars Tornøe Design Studio. Most likely this will be the first iteration of different versions of my site to come.
